Frequently Asked Questions
Review answers to common questions regarding our product lines, distribution network, and regulatory compliance.
-
Why would I implant a scaffold instead of doing plain balloon angioplasty (PTA) if PTA avoids leaving anything behind?
PTA avoids permanent implants, but it also has high acute recoil and dissection rates, especially in BTK lesions with calcification or long disease. This often leads to:
- Suboptimal acute luminal gain
- Early restenosis
- Bailout stenting
Esprit provides temporary mechanical scaffolding to stabilize the vessel during healing and then fully resorbs, restoring vessel compliance and physiology. This gives you better early lumen durability than PTA, without the long-term penalty of a permanent implant.
-
How is Esprit different from a bare-metal stent in terms of restenosis risk?
Bare-metal stents leave a permanent rigid cage, which:
- Disrupts natural vessel motion
- Promotes chronic inflammation
- Increases neointimal hyperplasia
Esprit delivers controlled drug elution (anti-proliferative therapy) during the highest restenosis risk period and then disappears, eliminating the long-term inflammatory stimulus. This combination targets restenosis both biologically and mechanically, unlike BMS which address neither optimally over time.
-
What happens if I need to re-intervene later—am I limiting future options by using Esprit?
No—this is actually one of Esprit’s strongest advantages.
With bare-metal stents, future options are constrained by:
- Metal layers
- Difficult re-crossing
- Limited surgical targets
Because Esprit fully resorbs, it preserves:- Future endovascular access
- Surgical bypass options
- Repeat PTA or DCB use
This is particularly important in CLTI patients, where disease progression and repeat interventions are expected.
-
Is there a safety concern with scaffold thrombosis or loss of support over time?
Esprit is engineered to provide sufficient radial strength during the critical healing window, then gradually resorb once the vessel has remodeled. Unlike early-generation scaffolds in other vascular beds, Esprit’s design is BTK-specific, accounting for:
- Smaller vessel diameters
- Lower flow states
- Longer lesion lengths
Clinical data to date show no signal of excess acute thrombosis when used per IFU and with standard antiplatelet therapy.
-
How is this better than a bare-metal stent from a limb-salvage perspective?
Bare-metal stents permanently alter vessel compliance and can compromise bypass targets. Esprit restores vessel patency during healing and then leaves no metal behind, preserving distal targets and avoiding chronic inflammatory stimulus—key in CLTI patients with long life-time disease burden.
-
Does a resorbable scaffold really last long enough to matter?
Esprit is designed to maintain radial strength through the biologically critical remodeling phase, then resorb after the vessel has stabilized. This avoids both early recoil and late chronic injury, which are common failure points for PTA and BMS respectively.
