Germitec AE1 and Chronos Probe Disinfection

Validated, Chemical-Free High-Level Disinfection for Ultrasound Probes — Protecting Patients While Streamlining MDRD Workflow

Using automated, 360° ultraviolet-C technology, Chronos and AE1 deliver rapid, traceable high-level disinfection without chemicals, reducing probe turnaround time and eliminating consumable dependency.

Vertical Integration:
End-to-end control of design, manufacturing and distribution of our healthcare devices and supplies

Supply Chain Reliability:
A robust network with 4 distribution centres ensures reliable operation and inventory security.

Regulatory Expertise:
We follow North American compliance
and clinical standards.

The Challenge:

Chemical-based HLD workflows create bottlenecks because they involve chemical handling risks (fumes/residues), added manual steps (including indicator checks), and process steps like rinsing/waiting that slow probe turnaround and increase human-error risk.

The Solution:

Chronos and AE1 replace chemical soaking with automated, monitored UV-C HLD that validates the cycle and captures traceable cycle data, delivering fast turnaround with no chemicals and no rinsing. Chronos runs a 180-second HLD cycle.

  • Chronos® emits an energy wavelength of 254 nm of UV-C and the dosage emitted inside the chamber is part of a proprietary algorithm owned by Germitec and tested extensively – Yuvee®. The microbicidal efficacy of Chronos® has been independently tested, following standards set by leading regulatory authorities worldwide. Its disinfection effectiveness has been tested on bacteria, fungi, viruses including highly transmissible, resistant HPV2,3, and spores.

  • Unlike traditional chemical-based disinfection, UV-C HLD is chemical-free and does not produce harmful fumes or residues, making it safe for healthcare professionals and patients. It improves Quality of Work Life (QWL) as it eliminates risks associated with handling and storing chemicals, reducing the likelihood of accidents or exposure.

    Learn more about Sustainability

  • UV-C HLD does not require the use of chemical disinfectants, which can be harmful to the environment, especially when disposed improperly. UV-C HLD technology uses minimal energy. It requires no single-use consumables, such as wipes or other disposables.

  • Germitec closely collaborates with leading ultrasound probe manufacturers. Thanks to test protocols carried out in our test laboratory and co-validated with manufacturers, probes from the leading brands have been rigorously tested and approved. In addition, the compatibility list is regularly updated to include the latest models on the market.

Compatibility

Germitec’s UV-C high-level disinfection systems (Chronos, Antigermix AE1) are designed to work with ultrasound probes for the majority of manufacturers, supported by Germitec lab test protocols and an actively maintained compatibility list.

They are intended for these device categories in clinical workflows:

Endocavitary and external ultrasound probes (Chronos).

Long endocavitary ultrasound probes, plus TEE/TOE probes and ENT endoscopes without an operative channel (Antigermix AE1; Chronos Max for TEE/ENT).

Synergistic integrations: built to support traceable HLD documentation (digital records/report integration; traceability interfaces such as Germitrac and printer references appear in Germitec materials).
